Slammin’ & Jammin’ is in the books! Our tag line of Tennis – Fun – Giving Back marked every segment of the event. If numbers are the judge, the event was a great success! We raised over $21,000 for Children’s Cancer Partners – more than double the original goal. It would not have been possible without the participation and generosity of everyone in the SJTA. ‘Carnival Skills’ was developed and led by Lisa Toomey & Susan Doyle. The event brought out the fun in everyone. While the target, bin, and serve challenges were tough (the bin the hardest for sure), the relays, blind serves and balloon challenges brought out laughter non-stop. We can’t leave out the largest and smallest racquet hitting. Amazingly members could actually hit the ball with the 4" racquet head while the 5-foot, 25-lb super-sized racquet took quite some strength. Thank you to all our good-natured players that came to join us

The surprise format for the Teams Tournament kept everyone guessing until the start. Rules were delivered before play began. Colored wristbands identifed the teams. Tim O’Connor got the players fired up by playing “Reveille” One game playoff had the Green Team prevailing to take home the grand prizes.

Bids & Bites’ was the auction portion of the 2-day event and the primary fundraiser. JoAnn Rose and her team created an atmosphere of fun & food revolving around the countries of the Grand Slam tournaments. They were even successful in getting the Queen to attend! Karen Kontoulas and her team assembled the Ticket Drop, Silent Auction, and lined up the Live Auctioneer.

We are grateful to the many local businesses and SJTA members whose generous contributions provided something to appeal to everyone. Auction items were plentiful and the bidders had open pocketbooks! Raffle tickets were sold all day at the courts then moved to Members to join the silent and live auction segments. Our auctioneer truly made the live portion of the event a success.

Play-with-the Pro' on Friday was well received. Jason, Adam and their SJTA partners enjoyed fun & competitive match play. We wrapped it all up with a Cookout at Waterway Park sponsored by Stifel, local financial consultants. We are grateful to Albert, Jere & John for their continued support of SJTA. Because of their generosity, we were able to add approximately $1,000 to our total gift to Children’s Cancer Partners.
